Brake Shoe Usage Precautions
1.Pre Installation Inspection
Material matching:Ensure that the brake shoe material matches the brake disc/wheel hub(such as cast iron, synthetic materials,etc.).
Dimensional compliance:Check if the brake shoe size meets the vehicle model requirements to avoid brake failure caused by improper installation.
Surface condition:Confirm that the brake shoes are free of cracks, deformation,or severe wear, and that the new brake shoes are clean and free of oil stains.
2.Installation Requirements
Correct alignment:The contact surface between the brake shoe and the brake wheel/disc should be evenly adhered to avoid uneven wear.
Tightening torque:Fix bolts with standard torque to prevent loosening or detachment.
Gap adjustment:Ensure that the gap between the brake shoe and the brake surface meets technical specifications(such as railway vehicles typically requiring 1-3mm).
3.Operation&Maintenance
Attention during the running in period:New brake shoes need to be run in at low speed and light load(about 200-300 kilometers)to avoid hot cracks caused by sudden braking.
Temperature monitoring:During continuous braking, the temperature of the brake shoes should not exceed the material limit(such as synthetic brake shoes, which are usually≤250℃).
Foreign object cleaning:Regularly remove oil stains, metal shavings, etc.on the surface of the brake shoe to prevent a decrease in braking force or abnormal wear.
4.Replacement Criteria
Thickness wear:The remaining thickness is lower than the manufacturer's specifications(such as replacing railway brake shoes if they wear to 10mm).
Cracks/peeling:Replace immediately when there are penetrating cracks or large areas of material peeling.
Abnormal braking:If the braking distance is extended, there is abnormal noise or shaking, the brake shoe status should be checked.
5.Safety Warnings
Prohibition of mixing:The same axle brake shoe must be of the same material and batch to avoid uneven braking force.
Oil and water resistance:Avoid contaminating the friction surface with grease and water stains, which may cause brake failure.
Regular inspection:It is recommended to check the status of the brake shoes every 5000 kilometers or as required by the operation manual.
